Chambord, the Renaissance dream
The largest of all the Loire châteaux, Chambord impresses with its double-helix staircase attributed to Leonardo da Vinci and its forest of chimneys. Its park, surrounded by the longest wall in France, is home to deer, wild boars and horses. Hiring a bike or taking a horse-drawn carriage to tour it makes an original first date: you move at the pace of your steps, and the conversation settles in very simply.
Chenonceau, the Ladies’ Château
Straddling the Cher through a five-arched gallery, Chenonceau is nicknamed the Ladies’ Château in memory of Diane de Poitiers and Catherine de’ Medici. Its gardens, tapestries and freshly cut bouquets make it a delicate, lived-in place. Nearby, Amboise and its château overlook the Loire; the Clos Lucé manor recalls Leonardo’s final years. A cultural date that extends very naturally into a meeting.
Blois, Cheverny, Azay-le-Rideau
In Blois, the royal château blends four architectural styles around a central courtyard, and the summer sound-and-light show is worth an evening together. Cheverny and its classical façade inspired Hergé for Marlinspike Hall. Azay-le-Rideau, set on the Indre, mirrors itself in the water like a jewel. On Lyad, Centre-Val de Loire singles share their weekend plans; it is up to you to find someone to open the next gate with.
